Advanced Ordinary Differential Equations

Course Description: A graduate-level introduction to topics of ordinary differential equations and their applications in physics and engineering.

Suggested Text:   Advanced Engineering Mathematics by Michael D. Greenberg, 2nd edition

Coverage:  Chapters 1 – 5 (some sections omitted) and possible selected sections from other chapters.

Learning outcomes: Upon the successful completion of the course a student will:

Understand the basic definitions and characterizations associated with ordinary differential equations
Model physical systems associated with Engineering and Physics to obtain a first or second order differential equation.
Verify existence and uniqueness of solutions to certain ODEs.
Make the qualitative analysis of solutions to ODEs.
Identify the type of a given differential equation and solve first and second order ODEs by using the appropriate method out of the many methods introduced within the course.
