Eligibility

Who Can Participate In Upward Bound?

Students who enroll in the Upward Bound program must be a first generation college student (neither parent has a 4 year college degree) or meet income eligible guidelines or have a disability.


The USA Upward Bound program selects students in grades 9-12 who attend one of the following "target schools": Mattie T. Blount High School, C. F. Vigor High School, and Lillie B. Williamson High School.

Program Requirements:

  • Students must have an interest and desire to attend college
  • Students must be willing to participate in Upward Bound in the summer and during the regular school year
  • Students are encouraged to remain in the program through graduation from high school
  • Upward Bound encourages diversity and welcomes applications from eligible students of all social and ethnic backgrounds
